Entrepreneur and affordable housing advocate Matthew Davies is the president and founder of Harmony Communities, which owns and operates thirty manufactured housing communities in the western United States. A lifelong Stockton resident, Davies has operated several successful businesses out of the city, including an online retail business he launched in 2002 and a Stockton restaurant that he owned and operated along with his family.
When he founded Harmony Communities in 2009, he considered the move a return to his roots. Davies grew up watching his father manage the family’s rental property business and, when he was old enough, he helped to run and grow that business, before branching out on his own to launch Harmony Communities. Davies chose the name Harmony Communities to reflect a sense of trust. His goal is for every resident to feel pride in their environment and in the community that they call home. He achieves this goal by providing communities that are not just passable but peaceful, safe, functional, and beautiful.
Davies purchased his first community – Stockton’s Tiki Lagoon Resort & Marina – in 2004. He now owns eight parks in the Stockton area and surrounding communities, including Cherry Orchard and Bel Air Mobile Estates. Of Harmony Communities’ fifty employees, twenty work out of the Stockton office. “It’s always been a goal of ours to bring good-paying jobs to Stockton,” Davies says. In 2019, Harmony Communities purchased its thirtieth community, bringing nearly 2,000 affordable homes to residents in Stockton and surrounding areas.
When he isn’t managing properties, Davies and his family enjoy The Miracle Mile District, the Delta, Tiki Lagoon Resort and Marina, and the variety of food and shopping options in Stockton. Boating, spending time at the country club playing games and exercising, and coaching his girls in softball are among his favorite pastimes.
As for Harmony Communities, Davies plans to keep growing the business, adding employees and parks and continuing to target about $25 million a year in acquisitions.
